Murrumbateman single vineyard. Quiet achiever, though those in the know know… an excellent expression here. Has that distinct regional mulberry/blueberry fruit vibe, squishy in the palate (though silky too!), sweet spiced, fine in tannin, wildly fragrant. Lots to sink one’s teeth into. Yummo. Quite lush as an expression, loads of cherry elixir-maraschino sweet-sourness comes through too. Indeed, the fruit sweetness (but not over ripeness) is overt here. The tight finish helps. Good wine this, carrying on the young legacy, so to speak.

Vineyard:

 

Grown on the “Caraluma” vineyard in the heart of Murrumbateman, this vineyard is lovingly hand tended by the owner.  The vineyard has a perfect aspect on the eastern side of a hill.  

 

Winery:

 

De-stemmed and cold soaked for five days to retain bright purple hues. Warm, rapid fermentation and a total of two weeks macerating on skins to achieve complex tannin profile. Racked to barrel for malolactic fermentation by sequential racking to ensure that wine was matured in oak without lees. Matured over twelve months in a combination of French demi-muids and puncheons (20% new).

Colour:

 

Mid crimson with purple hints.

Aroma:

 

Vibrant black and red fruits with intense dark spice and black pepper aromas.

 

Palate:

 

Black and red fruit palate with fine structural tannins and dark chocolate like density and texture. Full of pepper and black spice and complemented by ­fine quality French oak the wine represents a dense cool climate style epitomised by the region.

 

 

Cellaring:

 

Monitor in cellar through to 2036 and beyond.
